THE STORY BEHIND THE CHINA CHAIR
The China Chair was part of Hans J. Wegner's lifelong quest to fully understand end explore the possibilities of wood as a material; how it could be moulded, shaped and sculpted into almost any form. So, taking his inspiration from the classic designs of the Chinese royal court (hence the name), he used innovative techniques of heating and bending to create the gorgeous, sculptural backrest. Unlike many of the other 500 chair designs he produced in his lifetime, the China Chair has a much wider base, adding extra stability and strength. Its unique look has ensured that it remains an enduring favorite to this day.
