With Eero Aarnio's Egg Cup Pod, the clue for its design and intention is all in the name. What isn't obvious is just how comfortable the fibreglass and wool frame really is or how much fun your children will have with this two thirds the scale kids reproduction. With all the wide-eyed excitement the piece inspires its hard to believe it wasn't designed with children in mind, but reducing the size makes Aarnio's technical innovation and commitment to strange shapes and memorable symmetry even clearer. Our VOGA.com version matches those specifications exactly, but of course with the distinctive reduction in size that makes its finish even crisper and easier to match to your lounge or childrens bedroom
THE STORY BEHIND THE EGG CUP POD FOR CHILDREN
Eero Aarnio created the Egg Cup Pod in 1962 at the height of his experimentation with spherical forms and inverted spaces. Despite the many imitators no one has come close to his ability to craft comfort out of curved form and by exploring the possibilities of plastic and fibreglass as an affordable and durable material. Graduating from the Institute of Industrial Arts in Helsinki, he and his fellow alumni took a number of unique approaches to compete with the upheaval they had seen in Danish design.
