DESCRIPTION

It's hard to believe this cubic wonder was designed over a hundred years ago. With its invitingly soft and clean geometric lines, Josef Hoffmann's Kubus Chair was light-years ahead of its time. Just as popular today as it was when it was created, our high quality reproduction stays faithful to the original blueprint. Made from matt-finished aniline leather on a padded hardwood frame, the chair is delightfully comfortable with ample room to stretch out and relax. Available in several colours such as black, brown, dark brown, sand, camel, red, white and cream, there is a colour to suit every room.

The story behind the Kubus Chair

Designed in 1910, the Kubus Chair is a classic example of Josef Hoffmann's love affair with geometric lines and cubic shapes. The chair is a triumph of mathematical purity, each padded square is perfectly aligned and in complete symmetry. It was a revolutionary and desirable contrast to the frills and florals of the Art Nouveu movement that was dominant at the time.

ABOUT THE DESIGNER

ABOUT THE DESIGNER

JOSEF HOFFMANN

1870 (Czech Republic) -1956 (Austria)

Josef Hoffmann was born in Moravia, now part of the Czech Republic but he spent most of his adult life in Austria. He attended the Academy of Fine Arts in Vienna and fell in love with the country, staying there until he died in 1956. It's for this reason that he is often described as an Austrian designer. Hoffmann had an unmistakably minimalist style and was at the forefront of the arts and craft movement in the early 1900s. Today, his designs are globally reproduced and his originals are displayed in world-famous museums, including the MoMA in New York and V&A in London.
