Our Hans J. Wegner-inspired Opala Table Lamp is a strong, striking centrepiece for any coffee table or dinding room. Sitting almost 60cm tall, its sleek, gleaming iron base and neck are the picture of understated elegance, while its opaque over-sized shade allows both bright and soft light at the same time, and is available in either brilliant white or a subtle coffee shade.
The story behind the Opala Table Lamp
The Opala Table Lamp was originally designed in 1975 by Hans J. Wegner, who many still see as Denmark's finest furniture designer, as part of a series of three bespoke lamps for the world-famous Hotel Scandinavia in Copenhagen. A later addition to the hotel's iconic furnishings, which included the likes of The Egg and Swan Chairs, The Opala was Wegner's attempt to produce a light with was both warm and bright. The opaque shade sought to soften the glare above the lamp, while the exposed underside made it the perfect way to add focus to a coffee table of dining setting.
