The organic curves of the Tulip Style Armchair Full Upholstery have been made even more comfortable with the addition of full cashmere upholstery. The chair's shell is ergonomically moulded to echo the lines of the body and comes with an integrated armrest. The unique stem base is a signature of the Saarinen Tulip series and provides a distinctive aesthetic and stable functionality. It has a swivel mechanism, which allows it to be turned. The fully upholstered Tulip Chair provides relaxed seating for the dining room, lounge or bedroom. Accompany it with the matching Tulip Table for a stylish, vintage look.
The story behind the Tulip Armchair
A purist by nature, Saarinen sought to design a chair that was reduced down to its most minimal and effective form. By creating a pedestal base, he was able to 'declutter' the dining area and get rid of what he called 'the slum of legs' under tables. His Tulip chair was the first ever one-legged chair and set new standards for furniture design. The chair series come with or without arms and either fully upholstered or part upholstered.
ABOUT THE DESIGNER
1910 (Finland) -1961 (United States)
A Finnish American architect and industrial designer, Eero Saarinen took a sculptural approach to furniture design. He was a perfectionist who was obsessed with getting the perfect curve or line, often building hundreds of models to ensure he got it right. His attention to detail paid off. His work is now iconic and includes design classics such as the Tulip Armchair, the Tulip Table and the Womb Chair.
"Always design a thing by considering it in its next larger context - a chair in a room, a room in a house, a house in an environment, an environment in a city plan."
